CAT mock analysis: what CATin shows after every mock
Every CAT topper says the same thing: the mock is half the work, the analysis is the other half. Done by hand, a proper analysis — sorting every question by time, difficulty and outcome, finding the patterns — often takes two to three hours per mock, and most students skip it. CATin has it ready the moment you submit, so the whole review time goes on fixing, not on bookkeeping.
What you see after a CATin mock
- Score and percentile range. Net score overall and by section, with an estimated percentile range from published score-to-percentile data for that paper — never an invented number.
- Accuracy and attempts. Correct, wrong, skipped and accuracy for each section, with marks per minute so you can see how efficiently each section earned.
- Time per question. Every question with the time you spent on it, the one that ran away with your clock, and the time sunk into questions you opened and then skipped.
- Outcome by difficulty. The easy questions you left unattempted (the cheapest marks there are) and the hard questions that cost you negative marks.
- First half against second half. Whether your accuracy held or fell as the section went on. A drop is a signal to check: stamina, harder questions late, or the order you took them in.
- Negative marks by topic. Which topics are costing you marks, not just which ones you find hard.
- Why each mistake happened. Tag a wrong answer as a careless slip, a concept gap or rushed by the clock, and a skip as "too long, moved on" or "never reached it". Your tags shape what CATin gives you next.
- Your next fixes. Up to three things to fix, read from this mock alone: the topic that cost the most, the wrong answers still to go through, and the biggest time sink. Keep the ones you will act on; they lead the next day's plan.
- Looking back: if you had… Your score re-worked three ways with hindsight: skipping your slowest wrong MCQs, getting easy questions to 90%, and leaving the hard MCQs you got wrong. Each card shows the re-scored total and the marks it adds. It is computed for you, not a control to play with, and not a prediction.
- Every solution. The correct answer, the worked solution, the approach, a shortcut where one exists, and the common mistakes for each question. Re-attempt any question before you look.

How the analysis raises your score
The analysis is only useful if it changes what you do next, so in CATin it does. The topics behind your wrong answers become your next practice; your wrong questions come back in spaced revision; the planner fits both into your days. Across mocks you see whether easy questions left, negatives and second-half accuracy are actually shrinking. That feedback loop — mock, analyse, fix, re-test — is what turns more mocks into a higher percentile instead of the same score repeated.

How should I analyse a CAT mock?
Sort every question by outcome, time spent and difficulty. Look for easy questions you left, hard questions you got wrong, time sunk into questions you skipped, and whether accuracy fell in the second half. Then practise the topics behind your wrong answers and re-attempt them later. CATin produces all of this automatically after each mock.
How long does mock analysis take?
Done by hand, a thorough analysis often takes two to three hours per mock. In CATin the analysis is ready when you submit, so your review time goes on re-attempting and practising instead of sorting questions.
Does CATin show a percentile after a mock?
Yes. CATin shows an estimated percentile range from published score-to-percentile data for that paper. Where a number would be a guess, the app says so.
Is mock analysis free on CATin?
Yes. The full analysis comes with every mock, including the free official CAT papers from the last three years.
